The way we teach

To provide holistic education that empowers students to achieve excellence

IPS Primary School offers high quality education through a holistic approach focussed on addressing every pupil's individual strengths and needs. We draw our Curriculum from both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP) and the Cambridge Assessment International Education Program.

IB PYP

The IB Primary Years Programme is designed for students aged 3 to 12. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and the wider world. It is a framework guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, as well as transdisciplinary skills, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry.

Agency and self-efficacy are fundamental to learning in the PYP. Throughout the programme, students take agency for their own and others’ learning. They direct their learning with a strong sense of identity and self confidence, and in conjunction with others, build a sense of community and awareness for the opinions, values and needs of all community members. At IPS Primary School students prepare an annual Exhibition demonstrating these goals and values within a tangible framework of a final project.

Cambridge Assessment International Education

We combine the IB PYP philosophy with the English and Mathematics Programs of the Cambridge Assessment International Education. The Cambridge Primary English program encourages a life-long enthusiasm for reading, writing and spoken communication. Learners develop skills and understanding in four areas, becoming confident communicators, able to apply all four skills effectively in everyday situations.

Likewise, The Cambridge Primary Mathematics program trains students to think analytically and have better reasoning abilities. The primary mathematics curriculum encourages life-long enthusiasm for analytical and rational thinking, by focussing on principles, patterns, systems, functions, and relationships. Importantly, students become mathematically competent and fluent in computation, which they can apply to everyday situations.

Cambridge Primary Progression Tests are used at IPS to internally assess learner performance throughout their development and report progress to students and parents on a continual basis. The Cambridge Primary Checkpoint 1, is administered at the end of Grade 5. This Assessment monitors individual and group performance at the end of the primary programme. These external tests are marked by Cambridge International and are compared with other Cambridge International Schools.
